LU announces some of it’s “Return-to-School” protocols.

Laurentian University is announcing return-to-school safety measures. In short, staggered move-in dates, increased PPE, more cleaning, and reduced class sizes are all on the list. The school says as they inch closer to the fall, it’s taking every step possible to ensure student safety. Most of its courses will be done online.
 

1.2 million dollar grant will be coming to North Bay Police

A $1.2M grant will be going toward Policing in North Bay. It’s all from the provincial government through the Community Safety and Policing Grant. The grant program operates on a three-year cycle, with approximately $181 million supporting 107 local projects and $14 million going to 18 provincial projects.
 

Timmins Police looking for a stolen trailer

Timmins Police are looking for a stolen trailer. It rolled off from Hwy. 11 construction site. Police say the 2009 black homemade flatbed trailer has a red 3,000-litre fuel tank full of coloured diesel. The estimated value of the trailer is $15,000.
 

Missing: 56-year-old Ken Catling Jr.

A missing man is being sought in Sault Ste. Marie. 56-year-old Ken Catling Jr. He was last seen in the Carpenter Lake area, east of Sault Ste. Marie. He is known to frequent Sault Ste. Marie, Laird Township, Carpenter Lake area and may be travelling east toward Prince Edward Island.
He is described as being 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighing approximately 165 pounds with short brown hair. He may be slightly thinner than in the photo provided. The vehicle he was last known to be driving is described as a white 2011 Ford Edge, with Ontario licence plate number CBHA 792.
 

Over 50-new buses are coming to Greater Sudbury

Fifty-three new transit buses are coming to Greater Sudbury. It’s all part of an almost $100-million investment from three levels of government. The Government of Canada is investing more than $39.7 million in these projects through the Public Transit Infrastructure Stream (PTIS) of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan.
 

“Grandchild” fraud calls are making the rounds, again

Sault Ste Marie Police has been the recipient of two fraud complaints. In the two complaints, victims were contacted by an individual claiming to be a grandchild who was involved in a collision and they claim to need more than $3,000 to get out of trouble. The victims were instructed to put the money in bubble wrap and drop it off at a location in Sault Ste. Marie. Seniors were targeted in both incidents.

Bussing may look different this fall – SSSC

Sudbury Student Services Consortium is looking at exactly how bussing will happen this fall, and two changes are coming. First, bus drivers will take daily attendance and seating will be assigned. That’s following a document released from the company’s executive director this month. They say parental buy-in will be key and be clear with the company as to whether their child will be on the bus before the school year rolls out.
 

East Farris man facing a string of charges,  dating back to February

North Bay OPP has charged a Bonfield man following a string of incidents dating back to February. A gas and dash, theft of a side-by-side from Jocko Point, and the altercation of plates and validation are all on the list. A 48-year-old male is facing a total of eight charges.
