Near North School board will have a staggard start for the school year

The Near North District School Board and Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario will bring students back to class on a staggered schedule. In the name of safety, it means different grades will return to school on different days. Under the plan, students will not return to school Sept. 8. Instead, they will begin to attend from Sept. 9 to Sept. 11.
Under the plan, students from senior kindergarten to Grade 2 will return to school Sept. 9. Grades 7 and 8 in grades 7-12 schools, such as Chippewa and West Ferris, will also return Sept. 9. Students in Grade 9 at grades 9-12 schools also will return that day.
On Sept. 10, grades 3 and 4 students at K-6 schools and grades 3-5 at K-8 schools will return. So will grades 9-10 in 7-12 schools and Grade 10 students at 9-12 schools.
All other students will attend school Sept. 11.
 

Missing: 24-year-old Joshua Fenner

Greater Sudbury Police officers are looking for a missing man. 24-year-old Joshua Fenner. Last seen in Copper Cliff by his sister, all attempts to locate Joshua Fenner is described as Indigenous/African American, about 130 pounds and 5-foot-5, with black curly hair and brown eyes.
 

Warning: Aggressive Bear reported in Timmins

Timmins Police Service is warning of the potential of aggressive bears. This is after receiving reports that bears are reported to have chased persons in the Dalton Road area. There is also a report of an aggressive bear in the Rea Street South area of the city. Thus far there have been no injuries, but the investigation remains ongoing.
 

Flooding closes Sault Ste. Marie underpass

Sault Ste Marie public works had their hands full after heavy rain led to the flooding of the Wellington St. underpass in the west end of the city. As of 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, the area was closed and barricaded with members of the city police service and public works on scene. There were two people in one of the vehicles but were not injured. The underpass has reopened.
 

TP North Bay back for another year

The seventh-annual toilet paper drive is a go. TP North Bay, working with the North Bay Food Bank, aims to see friends, neighbours and businesses together to collect toilet paper to be distributed by the food bank, as well as other food banks operating in the city. This year’s target is 20,000 rolls.
 

Greater Sudbury Man arrested and charged after waving a weapons incident

A Greater Sudbury a 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged after a weapons incident. This is after police got a call about a man waving around what was believed to be a handgun on Old City Hall Lane off Durham Street last night. He was arrested and searched. Police found a loaded BB gun magazine on him, as well as a large can of bear spray.
