Collège Notre-Dame has been dismissed at due to COVID-19 outbreak

Public Health Sudbury & Districts has dismissed another school due to COVID-19. Collège Notre-Dame has been dismissed at due to an outbreak declared at the school. This is after three cases have now been reported at the school. All students and staff have been dismissed and must self-isolate up until and including March 18.
Yesterday Sudbury Catholic District School Board has dismissed more students due to COVID-19. This time, one class at St. Francis Catholic Elementary School after an individual tested positive for COVID-19 at the school. The Grade 5/6 Regular English class at St. Francis is dismissed up until and including March 19.
Meanwhile, one case of COVID-19 was also been confirmed at R.L. Beattie Public School. The kindergarten class in Room 122 has been asked to self-isolate to and including March 18.
 

First case of COVID-19 in Northern Ontario a year ago

Public Health Sudbury and Districts has reported 10 new cases of COVID-19 in the latest count. It’s is a significant drop from the 34 cases reported on Monday. It was one year ago today that a man in his 50’s tested positive for COVID-19 in Greater Sudbury. The first case in Northern Ontario.
 

Speeder clocked 70kph over the limit

A speeder has had his vehicle taken away by the OPP. This is after he was clocked going 70 over speed limit in a 100kph zone. Police were conducting a stationary radar duty on Highway 11 in Armour Township when they stopped the northbound vehicle. A 26-year-old Mississauga driver is facing charges.
 

Dicey weather coming for Sault Ste Marie, Timmins

Those in the Sault Ste Marie area will need the umbrella on the way out the door. Environment Canada is calling for heavy rain for the Sault and surrounding areas today into tomorrow. Total accumulations of 20 to 40 mm are expected, which could cause localized flooding as the snow melts.
Elsewhere, in Timmins rain is expected, and environment Canada says that’s all expected to freeze as temperatures rapidly fall into the evening. Ice pellets and snow are possible by Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, Sledding trails could soon deteriorate with warmer weather. At least, that’s the case in Timmins. The Timmins Snowmobile Club says water on the trails themselves in some areas have resulted in washout. Sledders are asked to check the interactive travel guide before heading out.
 

NNDSB going to digital registration

The Near North District school board says, school registration is going fully digital. Announced this week, it means the registration process eliminates the need for an in-person visit to schools. It light of COVID-19 protocols relating to in-person visits, the board indicates they want to keep person-to-person contact to a minimum.
 

Sudbury looking for 15-year-old Damon Dupuis

Greater Sudbury Police are looking for a missing teen. 15-year-old missing teen Damon Dupuis. The boy was last seen in the afternoon of March 5 on Main Street in Val Caron. He was wearing a tie-dyed sweater and black pants. Damon is described as 5’9” tall, 120 pounds, with curly brown hair.

Ontario has recorded more than 1,100 new COVID-19 cases for the third consecutive. 1,185 new infections mark a decrease from Monday’s report. Among today’s numbers, Public Health Sudbury and districts is reporting 10 new cases of COVID-19. Two have screened positive for a variant of concern.
 

Project DARE closing after 50-years of operation

The Province of Ontario says that after 50 in operation, WLE or Project D.A.R.E., will close in South River. An adventure therapy program, it offered at risk youth and those in custody a chance to “try another way” through a number of activities, including out tripping into a number of locations including Algonquin park. The move comes as 26 youth facilities across Ontario are being shut down as of April 30th.
