All students to learn remotely, come Monday

The Government of Ontario announced that come the end of spring break, all schools would resume, at home learning. The Premier reiterated that while schools are not the issue, community transmission is, and allowing community transition would cause massive problems down the road.
 

LU cuts 58 undergraduate and 11 graduate programs, lets go of over 100

Laurentian will cut 58 undergraduate and 11 graduate programs as it restructures amid insolvency. That leaves the university with 107 undergraduate programs and 33 graduate programs. More than 100 people have been let go. The move comes after the school declared itself insolvent in February of this year.
 

Porcupine Health Unit reports 5-new cases and an outbreak at Iroquois Falls school.

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting five new cases of COVID-19 and has declared an outbreak at an Iroquois Falls Secondary school. The outbreak declaration is because of three confirmed cases in the school. Fifteen previously reported cases by the PHU have also screened positive for a variant of concern.
 

4-new cases of COVID-19 are reported by Algoma Public Health

Algoma Public Health (APH) is reporting four new cases of COVID-19, all from Sault Ste. Marie and area. Three are close contacts of another positive case, and one’s exposure category is listed as unknown.
 

Air Canada returning in North Bay, post pandemic

Air Canada will be back at the North Bay Jack Garland Airport after the pandemic. The news broke from Mayor Al MacDonald on twitter yesterday. He indicates there is no timeline but is “great news” for the City.
 

Echo Lee Whalen, 18 missing

Greater Sudbury Police Services are seeking a missing teen. 18-year-old Echo Lee Whalen. Echo is described as being 4’11”, 129 lbs. with blonde hair and blue eyes. She wears glasses and was last seen wearing a pink shirt, light blue jeans and white shoes. She was last seen on April 6 near Whissell Avenue and is believed to be in the area of the Donovan/Flour Mill.

Forest fire season underway

Forest fire season is underway and Northeast Region Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services says Kirkland Lake is one of the first regions to show a high hazard. While there is no active wild land fires in the northeast as of news time this morning, the area along the Quebec border from Temiskaming Shores to north of Kirkland Lake is under a strict eye.
