Another Outbreak of COVID-19 declared at HSN

Another outbreak of COVID-19 is being reported at HSN. It affects the Fourth Floor of the south tower. Public Health is actively working with the hospital to investigate the outbreak and ensure patients and staff are protected. There have been at least three previous outbreaks at HSN so far this year. Public Health Sudbury and Districts confirmed 19-cases of COVID-19 yesterday.
Meanwhile,
The Porcupine Health Unit is issuing a potential exposure advisory. It’s for those who were on the 11:40 a.m. Air Canada flight AC8284 from Timmins to Toronto on Sunday, April, 18. Those in those rows nine to 13 must self-isolate immediately and call their local health unit. Other people on the flight are asked to self-monitor.
 

OPP and Canine unit help locate lost hikers

OPP and the Canine unit were called in to help locate three hikers. Lost at Duchesnay Falls Saturday, the hikers apparently went off the trail and were not able to navigate back out. Thankfully there were no serious injuries.
 

COVID-19 outbreak declared Young-Davidson Mine

Another COVID-19 outbreak has been declared at a mine near Matachewan. The outbreak is at the Young-Davidson Mine. The Timiskaming Health Unit, says workplace outbreaks are declared when there are at least two confirmed cases that are linked to the site.
 

Living Space in Timmins is expanding

Living Space in Timmins is expanding. It’s going to be taking over a second location at 316 Spruce St. S. beginning in May of this year. The plan is to move Living Space’s existing operations to the Spruce Street South location while the Cedar Street North location will be re-purposed to meet the community’s need for single, transitional, and supportive housing models. It’s expected to open in October.
 

Sault Ste Marie firefighters battle back a blaze on Wellington Steet W.

Sault Ste Marie firefighters responded a blaze early yesterday. The call came in just after 8:30 from the 200 block of Wellington St. W. Smoke was seen coming from windows on the upper floor of a building, near the intersection of Wellington West and Huron St. Police and EMS also responded to the scene. There was no word as to the cause, nor the total damage done.
 

Moose spotted in Timmins

Some residents in Timmins saw quite the site if not all entirely unheard of, Saturday. A moose takes a stroll down Bonaventure in the west end of Timmins. It was spotted in around 8am. As there was no threat to public safety, there was no need to hoof the moose out of town.

See a green light? Pullover.

Drivers from urban areas are being reminded about vehicles with green lights. In some locations, such as the Sault Ste Marie area, an unmarked vehicle with a flashing green light on its dash indicates a volunteer firefighter from a rural community is responding to a call. Drivers are asked to pull over, and make room.
