Possible High-Risk Exposure from a flight from Calvary to Toronto to Sudbury

The Public Health Sudbury & Districts (PHSD) is advising of a possible COVID-19 exposure. It’s for anyone travelling on Air Canada flight AC130 from Calgary to Toronto on July 29 and flight AC8607 from Toronto to Sudbury the same day. The health unit says it is a possible high risk of exposure. Those seated in rows 19 to 23 on flight AC130 from Calgary to Toronto are considered high-risk close contacts and should contact the health unit.
 

Timmins Police continue to investigate single MVC

The Timmins Police Service says the investigation is ongoing after three people have passed away following a single motor vehicle collision. It happened at Little Pearl Lake. One male and two youth have been identified. The investigation is ongoing.
 

The unemployment rate in Greater Sudbury rose 8.6% last month

Greater Sudbury’s unemployment rate rose to 8.6 percent last month. Despite the country’s unemployment rate edging downward in July, that’s up from 7.9 percent in June. In contrast, a year ago, the city’s unemployment rate was 9.7 percent.
 

A road closure will last 5-weeks in North Bay

North Bay Drivers are being reminded of a road closure. Wallace Road will be closed between Lake Heights Road and Commerce Court for up to five weeks starting Monday.
It’s all so that work can be done, with the installation of a deep sanitary sewer. No detours will be in place.
 

Parry Sound High is being demoed

The Near North District School board says Parry Sound High School is coming down. The decision came during a special Board meeting late last week. Trustees awarded the contract in the amount of $937,600. Most of the demolition work can be completed before school begins, although there may be ongoing site work and some interior work taking place into September.
 

TPS looking for credit card thief

Timmins Police are looking for a suspect wanted for a credit card theft. Afterward, the suspect allegedly used the card twice. The card was stolen from a car on Norman Street. The owner didn’t realize the card was missing until the thief used it at a Mountjoy Street South convenience store.

Drive-in road may soon be a no-park zone

Sault Ste Marie Drivers may soon enough have one less place to park. Drive-In Road, just off Great Northern Road, will soon be a no parking zone. That will be the request of the city’s manager of traffic and communications tonight at city council. A request is will be presented to to ban parking on both north and south sides of Drive-in Road between Great Northern and Industrial Park Crescent. It is for safety reasons.
 

35-year-old charged after an RV flight from Police

Greater Sudbury Police say a 35-year-old man is in custody following a flight from Police. Officers say the incident started on Notre Dame Avenue just north of Wilma Street around 6 p.m. An RV and multiple police vehicles were involved in a collision before the motorhome ended up stopped at the intersection of Dell Street and Morin Avenue. The man is facing dangerous driving and other driving-related charges and is being held in custody for a bail hearing according to police.
 

North Bay YMCA Pool reopening

The North Bay YMCA says their swimming Pool is open. Limited programming will be offered to allow for physical distancing. Swim lessons will continue to be offered outdoors at Big Moose Beach in East Ferris. You can register online.
 

Elliot Lake meets tonight, looking at Labour Day events

Elliot Lake city Council will hold a virtual meeting this evening. And on the docket, The Recreation and Culture Manager will ask council for permission to produce roughly 10 events and features at three venues over the Labour Day weekend, Sept. 3 to 6. The estimates the net cost at $17,050. Noting the easing of COVID-19 restrictions, they will be held at the Collins Hall, Miners’ Memorial Site and Westview Park.
