Yao takes the seat as student trustee for Rainbow board

The student senate lead and student trustee on the Rainbow District School Board for the 2021-2022 school year, has taken the seat for the school season. Michael Yao is a Grade 12 student in the French Immersion Program at Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School. An active member of his school community, Yao has fostered positive connections within the school and with fellow students.
 

Sudbury and Nickel Belt Candidates prep for debate

Federal candidates from the Sudbury and Nickel Belt ridings are headed for another debate this week. Hosted by two Environment groups, include rethinking Green it will aim to answer questions on where candidates stand on city environmental issues. It is an online event and the full details are below:
Sept. 9 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. ReThink Green and Citizens’ Climate Lobby Sudbury will host the event.
 

Cobalt man facing charges following fire arm incident

A Cobalt man is facing charges, after an incident involving a firearm. Temiskaming OPP says it happened on Highway 567 in Lorrain Township. Allegedly, it began when the 27-year-old drove past a neighbor’s home, discharging the firearm. There were no injuries.
 

McNabb Street closed in parts today between Brien and Campbell

McNabb Street in Sault Ste Marie will be closed temporarily between Brien and Campbell Avenues today to facilitate lateral sewer replacements. The closure will be in effect until Thursday, Sept. 9. During the closure, construction signs including road closed, detour, and directional information will be posted to direct traffic through the area along designated detour routes.
 

Construction begins on the new East Ferris Medical Building

Construction has started on a new medical building in East Ferris. It’s in the 600 of Astorville Road, at the corners of Astorville, Big Moose, and Corbeil Roads—the former site of the Lucky 13. The 5,335 square foot center, will be the new home to Dr. John Seguin’s Doc on the Lake Clinic, and house other offices as well.
 

Valenti voted in to replace Tignanelli as city councilor

North Bay has a new city councilor. Ed Valenti was voted in this week, to fill the vacancy left by the resignation of Marcus Tignanelli. The vacancy was declared earlier in Tuesday night’s meeting. Valenti finished 12th in voting in the 2018 municipal election.
 

St. Vincent Place appealing for donations

St. Vincent Place in Sault Ste. Marie is appealing for donations. With an increase in much-needed assistance, shelves are running empty. The latest reports indicate it’s affecting the agency’s school lunch program. With the Big Blue Food Drive still a few weeks away, donations are appreciated.
