North Bay taking part in safety drills

The city of North Bay is taking part in a simulated hazardous material release involving rail cars. It’s happening in the Ottawa Valley Railway yard off Oak Street. The exercise takes place from 8 am to 3 pm and will allow for emergency services, along with municipal and government agencies, to assess and adjust the response and intervention plans with these types of incidents.
 

Cassellholme for the aged looking at affordable housing

Discussions are underway for affordable housing units at Cassellholme Home for the Aged property in North Bay. DSSAB will be entering into conversations next week with senior staff at DNSSAB. If it goes ahead, the affordable housing units would be located on the north end of the Cassellholme property.
 

72-charged in two-week safety campaign

A reminder is being given, once again, to stop for the bus and watch your speed. North Bay police laid 72 traffic charges in its two-week back-to-school safety initiative, which ran from Sept. 7 – 17th. Charges laid include 65 counts of speeding, three incidents of disobey school bus stop arm, two of driving while under suspension, and one each of disobeying a lane light and disobeying a stop sign.
 
 

$8 m in narcotics taken off the streets

More than $8 million worth of narcotics have been taken off the streets. $700,000 in cash was apprehended in a drug bust in West Nipissing. A number of weapons were also seized. Three people have been arrested and will be in court in November.
 

NBRHC gets $400k boost in funding

The North Bay Regional Health Centre is getting a boost in funding from the Province. More than $400,000 ($416,154) for infrastructure upgrades, repairs, and maintenance. The Ford Government says the investments will help build the capacity needed to end hallway health care while ensuring our hospitals have the tools they need to improve the quality of care for patients and continue responding to COVID-19. Mattawa General Hospital also received $20,000.
 

Sault Ste Marie Police looking for missing woman

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is requesting public assistance to locate a 50-year-old woman. 50-year-old Nichole Clements was last seen Thursday, August 26, 2021, in the area of Queen Street East and Spring Street.
Clements is described as:
• 5’11” tall
• approximately 105 lbs
• blonde hair
• green eyes
Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Nichole Clements is asked to contact the police by phone at 705-949-6300.
 

Sault Ste Marie Police plaza going ahead

A full-scale Downtown Plaza has the got the approval in Sault Ste Marie. The go-ahead passed at city council in an 8-3 vote. $1.646 million needed for the over $8 million dollar ($8,447,068) will come from the additional Canada Community-Building Fund.
