Cambrian College going remote January 1st

In the New Year, Cambrian College will be requiring employees to work from home if able. That was the word just ahead of the weekend to staff, with the simultaneous announcement that all winter term theory courses will be delivered virtually from January 10 until January 28. This is all due to the rise in COVID-19 cases and the Omicron Variant.  Only necessary hands-on labs are being delivered in person and on campus.
 

PHSD warns of a High-Risk exposure to COVID-19 Omicron Variant on ON Bus

Public Health Sudbury & Districts are advising the public of a potential high-risk exposure to the COVID-19 Omicron variant. It’s for anyone who was a passenger on an Ontario Northland bus from Ottawa to Sudbury on December 8 from 10:25 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Evidently, there was a person on the bus who is now under a watchful eye for the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
 

5 Projects getting Federal Canadian heritage funding

5 Projects in the Nipissing Temiskaming area will share close to $140,000 in federal Canadian Heritage funding.  Among them, $79,373 will go towards the North Bay and Area Museum Society.  $10,000 is awarded to the Historic Cobalt Corporation from the same program. $5,000 is geared towards the Little Claybelt Homesteaders Museum in New Liskeard.
 

Timmins Drivers – Watch for snow removal

Those out and about this early in Timmins are being reminded to watch for snow removal vehicles. According to the City of Timmins, overnight snow removal will be going on until 7:30 a.m.  On Shirley from Riverside to Lafleur, Park from Shirley to Lilian, Riverside to Park.
 

Individual on an Air Canada flight told to self-isolate

The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting a potential high-risk public exposure to COVID-19. It’s for individuals who were on an Air Canada flight from Toronto to Timmins last  Wednesday morning.  Air Canada flight AC8431 left Toronto at 11:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 15.  Regardless of vaccination status, individuals seated in rows 9 to 11 are advised to Immediately self-isolate and call the Porcupine Health Unit.
 

Sault Ste Marie Police say “No credible threat” at SAH

Sault Ste Marie Police say there was no credible threat at the Sault Area Hospital Friday when they were called.  While the details have not been released, a 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident. Police do indicate the matter is under investigation.
 

SAH doctors will keep Thessalon’s ER Open

Thessalon ER department says they will stay open during the Christmas holidays. This is after some concern over a doctor shortage. The North Shore Health Network says Physicians from Sault Area Hospital will work in the department until February.
 

Power outage restored in Timmins

Hydro One in Timmins responded to a power outage affecting just over 1,000 local customers over the weekend. A release issued by the City shortly before noon cited a transformer issue at Hillside and Mississauga as the cause. Anyone still without Power should contact Hydro One.
 

APH warning of a potential high-risk COVID-19 exposure

Algoma Public Health is reporting a potential high-risk COVID-19 exposure.  is at an auto dealer in the 800 block of Great Northern Road. It’s for Dec. 14 between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
